Rather than changing its damaged or old-fashioned tiling or PVC floor, why not renovate it? This is what Basic System offers. Eric Bonnot, the managing director, explains the process, called PU Color.

What is your process for renovating plastic and hard floors?

The PU Color from Basic System allows you to renovate and change the color of a floor, whether light or dark, plain or checkered. It is suitable for all plastic and rubber floors, linoleum, but also hard floors such as tiles, concrete, marble and terrazzo.

Why renovate your plastic or hard floor rather than change it?

It is simpler, faster, more ecological and more economical than removing an existing floor and replacing it with another. And by changing the color, you can completely change the atmosphere of a room. In addition, the treatment is less than half a millimeter in total. So there is no need to rework the environment of the room like planing the bottom of the doors or changing the baseboards.

How do you renovate your hard or plastic floor?

The first phase consists in preparing the ground, by putting back missing pieces, by repairing and gluing what can be, sometimes by doing an upgrade. For plastic floors, we offer a two-component to plug the holes and repair the joints. Then we pass a bonding primer adapted to the nature of the soil. Then comes the application of PU Color itself, which is also a two-component to be mixed just before use. It is a product in aqueous phase, that is to say in water, without solvent. It is applied in two layers using a 4 mm bristle roller. Finally we pass one to two layers of transparent PU protection. The latter exists in matt or gloss, in two thicknesses (20 or 40 microns when it is dry) and in ordinary or anti-slip. Anti-slip PU is very practical in a bathroom, for example, for an elderly person, or in any place where slippage must be monitored.

Can an individual renovate their plastic or hard floor themselves?

This is entirely possible if the soil is in good condition and does not require specific preparation. In fact, applying the products is easy if you use the right tools. On the other hand, soil preparation requires being an experienced handyman. In this case, it is better to call a professional.

What colors can you tint your floor?

Any color from the RAL color chart. We offer a color chart of 280 colors but if the person does not find the exact shade he is looking for, he can do a search on his side, give us the code of the chosen shade and we make the PU Color of the exact color, even for a small amount. Dark soil can become clear without problem thanks to the opacity of the product and its great covering power.

What price does it take to renovate its plastic or hard floor?

For the product itself, it takes 25 to 30 € per m². To this must be added the price of soil preparation: around € 5 per m² for damaged plastic soil and up to € 20 per m² for concrete. In total, this remains almost three times less expensive than removing a floor, making a leveling and laying a new floor.
